Adapting to our new remote-work reality

The company is the world’s largest technology company by revenue and has been the world’s most valuable company since January 2021. Not only should the technology be developed so that offices are prepared should there be a future pandemic, but cybersecurity will also be key, argued Sidiqian, pointing toward the importance of protecting cloud services. The company offers a hybrid remote work setup with offices in San Francisco, New York, and nine other cities across the US available for employees who choose to work on-site. The company has taken a hybrid approach for its workforce, allowing employees to work from anywhere across the globe.

Not having to commute, needing flexibility to balance work and personal obligations, and improved wellbeing are the top-cited reasons for preferring remote work. Gallup’s trends on remote work are based on Gallup’s COVID-19 survey conducted via web surveys using the nationally representative, probability-based Gallup Panel. The latest results are based on adults employed full time who work for an employer (are not exclusively self-employed) interviewed in mid-September. In contrast to the high rate of remote work in white-collar professions, working remotely is far less prevalent among workers with interactions that typically occur in person, such as in education (48%) and healthcare (35%). Monthly trend from April 2020 to September 2021 in amount white-collar workers in the U.S. have been working remotely, from home. Most recently, 41% were working exclusively from home and 26% partially from home, for a total of 67% working from home to some degree. However, the pandemic has indisputably accelerated and amplified the remote-work trend.

Companies Switching to Permanent Remote Work-From-Home

Workers in the tech industry largely said they were more productive after moving to WFH. 57% said they were more productive after COVID-19 forced them into remote work, while just 17% said they were more productive in the office. Companies Switching to Permanent Remote Work-From-Home

Another manager created a “virtual meal” by ordering the same pizza for delivery to the homes of all remote direct reports during a weekly team call. The office—with its meeting rooms and break areas and opportunities for both formal and informal interaction—has been a way of life for so long that it’s hard to imagine getting rid of it. And legitimate hurdles exist to making all-remote work not only manageable but successful.
